A comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers.
The Day Skipper Theory course is a five day classroom based course run over 2 weekends.
This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising.
Course Pre-requisites: RYA Competent Crew certificate or equivalent experience, which will need to be proven via log book - Please note you will not be allowed to participate in this course without meeting the course prerequisites
Minimum Duration: 5 days
Timings: Thursday, Friday & Saturday on the 1st weekend and Friday & Saturday on the 2nd weekend, 10am till 6pm daily
Minimum Age: 16
Course Content: the basics of seamanship, the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage, chart work, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations, construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat, emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, life jackets and life rafts
