RYA Competent Crew Part 2 | 3-Day Live Aboard - Weekend
The RYA Competent Crew Part 2 Course is the next step for those who have completed the Competent Crew Part 1 Course and want to become fully active crew members rather than just passengers. This immersive 3-day live-aboard course offers a true hands-on sailing experience while living onboard one of our clubs school boats.
Course Overview:
This course is designed to give you a deep understanding of life on board and the essential skills required to be a reliable crew member. You will take part in every aspect of running the yacht—from hoisting sails and steering to rowing a dinghy and maintaining watch. Youll finish the course ready to take part in day sails and longer passages with confidence and competence.
What Youll Learn:
- Understanding sea terms, boat parts, and rigging
- Sail handling and basic seamanship
- Rope work and line handling
- Fire safety and precautions
- Use of personal safety and emergency equipment
- Man overboard procedures
- Meteorology basics and dealing with seasickness
- Helming and steering under sail and power
- Day-to-day crew duties, provisioning, and etiquette
- Understanding customs and the rules of the road
Course Details:
- Duration: 3 Days (live-aboard)
- Timings: Start at 09:00 AM on Day 1
- Live-aboard: Onboard overnight stays on Day 1 and Day 2
- Cabins: Allocation based on booking (Click here to view the boat layout diagram)
- Minimum Age: 12 years
- Note: Students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- Prerequisite: RYA Competent Crew Part 1 (mandatory)
- Outcome: Full RYA Competent Crew Certificate
Sample Itinerary:
The itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions.
- Day 1: Meet at DOSC at 08:45. Prep the yacht and sail to Palm Jumeirah Marina. Stay onboard overnight.
- Day 2: Sail to Port Rashid. Stay onboard overnight.
- Day 3: Sail back to DOSC. Course debrief and certification.
Next Steps:
On successful completion of this course (combined with Start Yachting), you'll be eligible to sign up for the 5-Day Day Skipper Theory course.
