Weekly Weekend Learn to Sail | Season 2026-2027 » Intermediate Group - Term 1 - Sunday Group

Sun 6th September - Sun 11 October, 2:00pm-5:00pm

Our Weekend Intermediate Sailing Courses are designed for students who have completed RYA Stage 2 and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Held during the afternoon sea breeze on Saturdays or Sundays, this term-based course provides the perfect environment for developing control, technique, and independence on the water.

Students will work toward RYA Stage 3 or 4 certification, learning more advanced topics such as:

  • The 5 Essentials of Sailing
  • Coming alongside
  • Man Overboard recovery

This course builds both confidence and competence in more dynamic conditions, preparing young sailors for club-level sailing and beyond.

Course Details:

  • Prerequisite: RYA Stage 2
  • Duration: 3 hours per session
  • Time: 2:00 PM 5:00 PM
  • Term Dates: 6th Sep, 13th Sep, 20th Sep, 27th Sep, 4th Oct, 11th Oct (6 weeks)
  • Minimum Age: 8 years
  • Outcome: RYA Stage 3 or 4 (based on progression)

Enrolment Guidelines (Age & Weight): To ensure safety and an effective learning experience, sailors are grouped based on age and weight:

  • Ages 68 or under 40kg will sail in Optimist dinghies, taking part in our Sailors of tomorrow programme, designed specifically for younger, lighter sailors. This is up to and including Stage 3. Stage 4 will be taught in double handed dinghies as per the RYA syllabus.
  • Sailors over 40kg will sail in RS Zests, Teras or similar double-handed dinghies, suited for more technical skills and teamwork.

Sailors are assessed on the first day and grouped accordingly to ensure the best fit for their development stage and boat handling needs.
