Step aboard and begin your sailing journey with the RYA Start Yachting Course, a practical and enjoyable introduction to yachting designed for complete beginners. This 2-day course provides a hands-on experience of life at sea aboard one of our club's training yachts.
Course Overview:
Perfect for those with no previous experience, this entry-level course introduces the basics of sailing a yacht, including steering, sail handling, rope work, and safety awareness. Upon completion, you will receive the RYA Start Yachting certificate, which can be used as credit toward the RYA Competent Crew qualification.
What Youll Learn:
- General orientation and layout of the yacht
- Basic rope work and knot tying
- Steering and sail handling under guidance
- "Rules of the road" and right of way
- Man overboard recovery drills
- Use of emergency and safety equipment
- Introduction to weather and basic forecasting
- Clothing and equipment advice for sailing
Course Details:
- Duration: 2 Days
- Timings: 9:00 AM 5:00 PM each day
- Recommended Minimum Age: 12 years

- Ability After Course: A basic foundation in yachting and readiness to move onto the Competent Crew Continuation course
Sample Itinerary:
Please note: destinations may vary depending on weather conditions.
- Day 1: Meet at DOSC at 08:45. Prepare the yacht and sail to World Islands, then return to DOSC.
- Day 2: Meet at DOSC at 08:45. Sail to JBR, return to DOSC. Course debrief and certification.

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations or postponements of the entire course must be submitted in writing to DOSC at least 60 hours before the course start date.
