RYA Yachtmaster Theory Course
The RYA Yachtmaster Theory Course is an advanced navigation and seamanship program designed for sailors preparing for the Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams. This intensive course significantly expands your knowledge of offshore passage planning, advanced navigation techniques, meteorology, and the decision-making skills required to manage a yacht safely and confidently on longer passages and in more challenging conditions.
Whether you are working toward a professional qualification, upgrading your seamanship skills, or aiming to skipper more ambitious voyages, this theory course forms a critical foundation for the Yachtmaster pathway.
Course Highlights
Advanced navigation techniques, including secondary ports, estimated positions, and clearing lines
Comprehensive passage planning, from pilotage to offshore routes
In-depth meteorology, including weather systems, synoptic charts, and forecasting
Tidal calculations, streams, and prediction in complex scenarios
Collision regulations (COLREGs), including application in restricted visibility and traffic separation schemes
Safety management, emergency planning, and responsibilities of a skipper
Preparation for the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore practical exams
