RYA Start Racing Youth Camp
Our RYA Start Racing Camp is the perfect next step for young sailors aged 8 to 14 who are confident on the water and ready to experience the thrill of competitive sailing. Designed for those who have completed RYA Stage 3 or higher, this course introduces the essential techniques and tactics required to begin racing successfully.
Camp Overview
- Dates: Monday, 13th October Friday, 17th October 2025
- Timings: 2:00 PM 5:00 PM daily
- Duration: 5 afternoon sessions
- Pre-requisite: RYA Stage 3 or above
What to Expect
- Learn the fundamentals of racing, including:
- Race starts and acceleration off the line
- Mark rounding techniques
- Upwind and downwind strategy
- Racing rules and right-of-way
- Boat positioning and tactics
- Sailors will gain practical racing experience through fun, friendly race formats
Progression Path
- This camp serves as the gateway to the DOSC Race Squad, helping young sailors transition from training to competitive club and regatta racing.
Important Notes:
- This is a fixed 5-day programme; all sessions must be attended. Make-up sessions are not available, regardless of the reason for absence. Please refer to our T&Cs for details.
- Cancellations or postponements of the entire camp must be submitted in writing to DOSC at least 60 hours before the course start date.
